Oil Prices

In the year 2008, the oil prices are oscillating in a range of almost more than $100 a barrel! Just a few months back crude oil was trading at more than $140 per barrel, and today it has come off almost a hundred dollars! Who controls the crude oil prices? We all know that there is a limited source of crude oil. So, once that is off we can't have more crude. Just like we can not produce land, we can not produce oil. If you look at the demand and supply ratio of the oil, the demand is ever increasing and there is no chance that it will not increase in the future. Since there is demand, there is enough production to supply. In this case the prices shouldn't fluctuate so much. But the oil is an extremely important commodity for every nation, every person which makes an impact on everything including the international politics & economy. The economical hype till the start of 2008 and now the slow down by the end of the year 2008 has made the oil prices oscillate more than 100%. The oil trading speculators are the ones who benefit from these prices differences. Speculation over rides the demand-supply theory to decide oil prices and there the world markets decide the oil prices, which I think has suffered a common man like me the most in 2008. |
